Network News 05/2019

Dear members,

Also this month we would like to remind you of our Annual Meeting 2019 on September 16-17 in Berlin! Since the last newsletter three new members joined the Mobility network and a new feature, our AM network map, will be introduced on the website. Also, we would like to ask for input for the Lightweight Summit of the Ministers of Economics.

Topics of the month:
+++ 3 new members +++ AM Network Map +++ MgA at Lightweight Construction Summit of Economics Ministers +++ Reports from the working groups +++

We are pleased to welcome three new companies to our network in June!

Simufact engineering GmbH is a software company that develops simulation software for manufacturing processes. Amongst others, there are innovative solutions for build simulation.

With the 24IP Law Group we gain a legal expert who is familiar with concepts for the protection of licensing and the enforcement of IP rights.

Alexander Daniels Global GmbH acts worldwide as a talent scout and specializes as a recruiting agency in additive manufacturing.

The working group Approval in Mobility met on 28 May 2019 at the MgA office. It has scaled up by several new members and will continue to work on approval issues in the railway sector as Approval in Rail.
Following this example, a group with an Automotive focus is to begin its work soon.

On 06 May 2019, the representatives of the European railways from Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, Sweden, Switzerland and Austria met in Rome as part of the Mobility working group RAILiability.
The aim of this working group is to jointly develop a common database for printed 3D parts in order to share the requirements and learnings from development, but also to work closely together in material testing, research and development together with industry.
Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in mid-March 2019, the content is now becoming more concrete: initial component data will be collected and exchanged, additive components will be shown to each other, valuable inspirations for potential components will be exchanged and a first consolidated “need list” will be drawn up.
The next physical meeting will take place in Vienna in August.

Dear members,

we are happy to have met so many of you two weeks ago at the AM Forum in Berlin! It is nice to see how far our network in the AM industry reaches and how (many) valuable contacts arise from it. But also beside the AM Forum there is a lot to report:
+++ four new members +++ New faces in the AM office +++ Women in AM: a review +++ Results from the working groups +++

LINK3D is a software company based in the United States that develops additive workflow software to accelerate processes and achieve better machine utilisation.

Desktop Metal has revolutionized the FDM process with its printers and made it accessible for metal printing.

Hirtenberger Engineered Surface, part of the Austria-based Hirtenberger Group, has developed a solution for the surface treatment of metallic printing components called Hirtisation.

On 18.03. the working group Education met in Hamburg. They agreed on the further procedure regarding a jointly defined training model. In addition, the Fraunhofer IAPT presented its efforts in the context of the information days of the vocational schools, in the course of which interested teachers are to be inspired by the topic, who then hopefully pass this enthusiasm on to their vocational students. Appropriate dates are scheduled for June, and in future it will also be possible for other network partners outside Hamburg to implement them!

An official start has been made! On March 15, 2019 during the AM Forum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Deutsche Bahn, ÖBB, Trenitalia and SJ representing seven European railways at a press conference in which they committed themselves to cooperate intensively on AM topics for the printing of spare parts. The aim of the latest working group RAILiability of Mobility goes Additive is the identification of technological applications, which show the AM market concrete fields of action and potentials. Many thanks to Uwe Fresenborg (DB), Daniela Chiappini (Trenitalia), Stefanie Brickwede (Mobility goes Addivite), Lars Lindberg (SJ) and Andreas Zwerger (ÖBB) – from left to right – for this public starting signal!

New faces in the Office

On the 1st of April, our staff changes and the office grows: Christoph Windus as Office Manager takes care of all organizational issues.  This allows Susanne Merten to concentrate on marketing and PR issues from now on. She will be supported by our new working student Natalie Jaglin. Our working student Osman Adanir is quitting because he has almost made it: he is currently writing intensively for his Bachelor’s degree and will take more time to do so.

After almost three years in the network, Frieda Gripp wants to turn to other tasks in the Deutsche Bahn and leaves the office team. Arvid will take over her part of the finances. Our many thanks go to all our companions and we look forward to working with our new ones!

Review AM Forum

On the day before the AM Forum (13.03.2019) more than 50 great women of the AM industry met at the 1st European Summit for Women in AM. In the office of Mobility goes Additive e.V. we heard lectures by women for women: Signe Ratso, Deputy General commission for R&D of the European Commission, motivated everyone to pioneer additive manufacturing for industry 4.0, Kim Francois, Managing Director of Materialise China, gave insights into the world of additive manufacturing and its challenges in Asia, the Managing Director of Aidro hydraulics & 3D printing Valeria Tirelli inspired the participants with bionic use cases and Greta D’Angelo, Head of Technology of Amexci AB, gave practical impulses for the change management of an organization towards additive manufacturing processes. In an interactive session, Simone Dorenburg, Speaker Coach, gave everyone amazingly simple tips on rhetoric and body language. Insights into the event with its many opportunities for active networking can be found here in our members area. (Registration in the members area required).

Congratulations to Helmut-Schmidt University!

The Helmut Schmidt University of the German army! The team has won the tender for a study by the Federal Railway Authority to identify potentials in additive manufacturing in the German railway sector. A top-class advisory board, including Deutsche Bahn and Siemens, is providing support.

Internationalization

At the last board meeting it was decided to focus the internationalization efforts on Europe. The inclusion of European subsidiaries or dependencies has advantages, among others, in the timing of meetings. Nevertheless, suitable partners for strengthening the network will continue to be sought on the international market. In addition to membership of the network, these partnerships can also support an exchange of information for the mutual benefit of both parties.

US Army at MgA

http://amxe.net/u3e7n35v/s_8xqmdkhf/files/USArmy.jpg

In mid-December, the US Army specifically visited us, and we were struck by the parallels in spare parts printing for commercial vehicles and infrastructure. Our network members bigrep, Fraunhofer IAPT, Trinckle 3D, Deutsche Bahn AG, GEFERTEC, 3YOURMIND, Bionic Production and APWORKS impressively represented the AM location Germany with their solutions. On the following day there was an exciting meeting with the DB and the Bundeswehr. Learning: the spare part related breakdowns are better under control for the railways, even better in perspective due to AM.

The areas of deployment in the armed forces are, however, more diverse and more strongly influenced by environmental conditions and regulation.
Follow-ups were agreed directly. We intent to establish this workshop format inside Mobility goes Additive for targeted exchange with sectors with high potential.

NAMIC Announces collaboration with leading international 3D Printing network Mobility Goes Additive (MgA)

Singapore, 7 May 2019

The National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC) signed a memorandum of understanding with Mobility goes Additive (MgA) which is the leading international network of companies, institutions and research institutes working on industrial additive solutions based in Berlin, Germany.

The signing ceremony was held at the NAMIC Summit 2019: Design For Additive Manufacturing at the Marina Bay Convention Centre, witnessed by guest-of-honour, Dr Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Mr Oliver Fixson, Deputy Chief of Mission, German embassy Singapore.

The goal of Mobility goes Additive and all network members is to overcome the challenges of serial Additive Manufacturing (3D-printing) with joint forces. In achieving this goal, some things are key for the network: the members’ will  to achieve results and to work productively, the focus on solutions and the common willingness to jointly establish Additive Manufacturing as an integral part of the production chain.

Ms Stefanie Brickwede, MgA’s Managing Director said, ”It’s a great honor to be in this partnership. We are proud to have this opportunity to collaborate with NAMIC in the area of parts identification suitable for additive manufacturing in the industrial sector from medical, transportation and logistics, construction equipment, aviation, automotive, shipping etc. There is a lot of room for a co-operation between our European network and the Singaporean SMEs. We see NAMIC as a valuable gateway to the Asian market.”

Dr Ho Chaw Sing, NAMIC’s Managing Director said, “MgA exemplifies the collaborative vision the German and European ‘Mittelstand’ has with research institutes to bring innovation into the industries, especially in the transportation sector, in particular with six European state owned railways, to produce 3D printed spare parts. This extends beyond transportation and to other industrial sectors which our SMEs can benefit from.”

Additive manufacturing or 3D Printing is one of the key technologies in the Industry 4.0 ecosystem. In Singapore, its interest and adoption has been growing in the industrial sectors over the past few years, notably in the maritime, marine offshore, aerospace, precision engineering and biomedical sectors.

About Mobility goes Additive (MgA): MgA is the leading international network for industrial additive manufacturing. The network meets these challenges by acting as a central platform, bundling the value creation potential along the process chain and promoting the mutual development of its members’ competencies. By this, joint development of innovative products is driven, know-how and information is transferred in a targeted manner. New business fields are identified, profitable business contacts are established, and new international markets are opened-up.  This helps the market to become competitive against conventional production. Also, MgA serves as a contact partner for public and political institutions when required.
